New World Pasta to acquire No Yolks and Wacky Mac dry pasta brands
US-based New World Pasta Company entered into an agreement to acquire No Yolks and Wacky Mac dry pasta brands and certain assets from Strom Products for $50m.
Chairman and CEO of Ebro Foods, the parent company of New World Pasta, Antonio Hernandez Callejas said the acquisition of the No Yolks and Wacky Mac brands is consistent with the company's strategic plan to expand its leadership position within the branded North American pasta business.
"They also enable the company to continue to capitalize upon the North American consumers' keen interest in wellness-related products that enable them to live a healthier lifestyle," Callejas added.
No Yolks dry pasta is a noodle-style product that is cholesterol free, contains no saturated fat, and is high in fiber. It holds market shares of 15.6% and 29.4% in the US and Canada respectively.
The Wacky Mac brand is a healthy, vegetable-based pasta, comprised of unique shapes and four colors. Net revenue for the two brands will total approximately $37.5m in 2011.
The transaction is expected to close by 31 December 2011.
New World Pasta, based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the leading branded pasta manufacturer in North America and markets brands such as Ronzoni, Creamette, Skinner, San Giorgio, Prince, Catelli, American Beauty, and Light & Fluffy.
It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ebro Foods, a leading Spanish food company that markets rice brands such as Cigala, Brilliante, and Nomen.
