Romana Food Brands enters $98bn Canadian food processing sector

Romana Food Brands has acquired Canada-based pasta manufacturer Pasta Romana for an undisclosed price to foray into the Canadian food processing sector.

Pasta Romana, which was established in 1996, prepares Italian cuisine and authentic dishes. It is also into manufacturing of privately branded products which are served in certain restaurants in Montréal.

The company’s offerings include fresh pasta, fresh filled pastas, sauces and pestos.

“With proven expertise in product development and retail understanding, management has effectively stayed on top of the trends, incorporating cutting-edge equipment and attentiveness to the needs of its growing client base.

“We are very pleased to be moving forward in this industry, and highly anticipate how we will emerge, strengthening Romana Foods as an industry contender, building corporate value for shareholders."

Currently, Pasta Romana has a production capacity of up to 2000kgs of pasta along with 1,000ltrs of sauce per hour. These are processed in 40,000ft2 facilities of AAA, HACCP and C-TPAT certified property.

Romana Food Brands, on the other hand, has currently a range of major food outlets under contract including Aldi, Costco, Maxi, Metro, Imvescor, Loblaws, Provigo, Sobeys, Trader Joe's and Super C.

Last year, the company had acquired Pizza Romana which manufactures branded and private label products that include rising crust frozen pizza, thin crust frozen pizza and frozen crusts.

Pizza Romana currently produces 4000 pieces/hour for thin crust pizza along with 3000 pieces/hour for rising crust pizza.
